Want to Lose a Pound?

Contrary to what most people may tell you, losing weight is actually pretty easy.  Losing weight is actually what I would call a “number’s game”.  What does this mean exactly?

Well let’s go back in time to our high school health science and math class.  As I’m sure you learned way back when (and maybe forgotten), that a pound is made up of 3500 calories.  This is a KEY number to remember and will get you a long way in your goal of losing weight.

Now that we know that one pound is equal to 3500 calories…how do we apply that to losing weight?  Simple.  Just eliminate 3500 calories from your diet over the course of a week.  Seem hard? It shouldn’t!

All you need to do is eliminate 500 calories a day from what your currently eating (500 calories x 7days/wk= 3500 cal)

For example, say you like to have a healthy nutritious soda twice a day with your lunch and dinner.  Well a typical soda can run anywhere between 200-300 calories. So two sodas a day is EQUAL to 500 calories! Cut out those soda’s (having water instead) and you’ll lose One pound this week!

You just lost a pound and you didn’t even pick up a weight or come to one of my bootcamps!

If you want to lose more weight, well then apply the same principle but in larger numbers of course. Replace your processed food for healthy alternatives and watch your calorie intake (and your waistline) shrink.

When you combine a solid exercise program with healthy eating habits you will seem more results than you could imagine.  All it takes is some proper discipline and a little effort!

Also, always remember that being consistent in what you do is important to achieving your goals.  Even losing just a few pounds a week or a month will go a long way towards your long term goals of getting into great shape!

Stay Fit,

Robby

Overcome Your Fear!

Have you ever done something that’s scared you or made you feel totally out of your comfort zone?

When I was younger and in school, there was one thing that I was very afraid to do, Public Speaking. I’m not sure what about speaking in front of people scared me or made me feel totally uncomfortable, I just knew that I didn’t like doing it.  I would avoid raising my hand or doing anything that would result in the teacher asking me to come to the front of class and talk.

Finally one day I decided that enough was enough. I was tired of feeling trapped and unable to do something that I wanted to be good at.  How did I fix this?  I volunteered to speak as often as I could.  Sure at first it was terrible, however once I started to speak more often, the better I felt!  Now I can speak in front of anyone without a single ounce of fear or doubt!

The same goes when it comes to your fitness.  All too often people are afraid of getting into a fitness routine. Sure they feel like crap right now and they know that they need to do something about it. They are just filled with doubt and fear.

What if I’m too out of shape to start?

Will I be able to do anything at the gym?

There is no way I will fit back into those jeans, is there?

STOP!  Excuses will get you NO WHERE in life!  Take the first step and take action, go after what you want.  Sure it may be tough at first and not something that your used to. Heck, it may be so far out of your comfort zone you don’t know what to do!

Trust me, if you step out of your comfort zone and make it a point to exercise, even join a bootcamp, you’ll be setting yourself up for success.

I hope you enjoyed the beautiful day today…man was it awesome!

As most of you know, the success of a personal trainer is dependent on the results that clients see.  If your clients aren’t seeing results, chances are your not a successful trainer!  85214954

I have always prided myself on being a successful trainer because of the results that my clients see.  I am only as good as the client’s results, so I do everything I possibly can to get them to where they want to be!  Having said that, I want to help as many people as I can.  The more people I can impact, the better!

If you are reading this blog post, then consider this your invitation to a FREE 20 minute phone consultation with me.  Feel free to ask me anything you want about fitness, your workouts, nutrition, lifestyle changes, whatever!  Whether you are a current client of mine or not, take advantage of this offer and let me get you on the right track!

Act Fast! There are two catches.  The first being this offer is only good for the first 10 people to respond.  Also, all I ask in return is that you tell your friends and family about how your talk with me HELPED you reach your goal.  Pretty fair don’t you think?

Eat healthy….at McDonalds?

Good afternoon!

For those of you that read my newsletter on a regular basis (hopefully all of you!), you already know how I preach good nutrition as one of the keys to your fitness results.  All too often I see people who will have the workout side of things down pat, but their nutrition is off.  mcdonalds-bench-press

In my last newsletter I talked about the importance of making good decisions when it comes to where you eat as well as what you eat.  I’ve gotten some good feedback from that article and many people were wondering what choices there are when you do find yourself at a fast food place, such as McDonalds.

Believe it or not, McDonald’s has some very good food choices that are healthy!  If your pressed for time, try their apple dippers or their salads which are prepared with Newman’s Own dressing.  Sure the food is still fast, but it’s also healthy! Lot’s of sit-down restaurants, such as Cheescake Factory, have menu items that are much worse in terms of calories and fat than some fast food choices.

So if you are ever in a pinch and need to get something healthy, maybe after my bootcamp, then don’t look past McDonalds!

Why I Dislike (almost all) Personal Trainers..and how to choose the right one.

I’ve been a personal trainer for just under 5 years now.  At the ripe old age of 23 (almost 24) I have spent more time in the gym setting than most people will spend in their lifetime.  I’m very confident when I say that I’ve seen practically every type of trainer, whether it be in the gym or in an athletic training setting. And I’ve come to the conclusion that I really don’t like Personal Trainers.

Ok, let me be a little bit more specific.  I dislike the vast majority of trainers…but it’s with good reason!  As a lifelong fitness enthusiast myself, I’ve graduated with an Exercise and Sports Science degree, I’m a certified personal trainer and also a business owner.  Above all I strive to give my clients the very best in fitness and training.  Nothing frusterates me more than seeing a trainer who does not put their clients needs first.

Here are some things to look for first if your considering getting a personal trainer or joining a bootcamp.  If you follow these guidelines, you will be much happier with your trainer and you’ll actually see guaranteed results (which most trainers can’t deliever!)

1. Ask to see their credentials: I cannot tell you how many times I’ve been in a gym and seen trainers who after talking with them, find out that they got their certification from a website or by doing a 4 week course. Or even worse, aren’t certified or failed the test!  Just because the person looks fit, doesn’t mean they know how to get you fit.

2. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover…sometimes: I’ve seen over and over again people at the gym picking a trainer based solely on looks.  Of course it is important for the trainer to be in shape (they should practice what they preach), but it is also fatimportant to find out if they know how to get you in shape.  Look and see if the other clients are seeing results, and don’t be afraid to ask.  On the flip side, if a trainer is out of shape or has a beer belly/smokes on their break…probably best to steer clear.

3. One size does not fit all: One of my biggest pet peeves is how trainers almost always train people according to how they train and not based on the clients needs.  That’s great that you think your a professional MMA (mixed martial arts) fighter, but just because you train like one does not mean your client wants or needs to train like that too.  Make sure the trainer meets you where your at, listens to your feedback. That’s when you know you have a winner.

4.  Personality is Important: A trainer may have everything going for them..a rock hard body, lots of clients and the credentials to match.  However, when you talk to this trainer, if you feel like going to sleep or by the end of the conversation you feel upset or not energized, you should probably look elsewhere.  As a client, you want to look forward to going training with your trainer.  If the trainer tells you all their problems or your personalities don’t gel, you need to find a trainer that will fit better. Trust me, you’ll be spending a lot of time with them…might as well enjoy it!

Robby

Why You Should Take Vitamins

Do you remember when you were younger?

When I was younger I used to always go and visit my grandparents on Saturday afternoons.  It was always a nice relaxing time and I always had a nicely prepared Ice Cream Sundae waiting for me, courtesy of my grandmother.  However, before I could have any of that delicious sundae, I had to get through with my meal…which usually consisted of veggies (which I hated).

My Grandmother would say “be sure to eat your vegetables!”  This was a monumental task for me. And thankfully I grew out of disliking veggies and now I LOVE them!

All too often we get busy with work or everyday things in life and we don’t have time to have a “perfect” diet.  It is certainly possible by planning your meals ahead of time (which I recommend).  But just in case I think it is important to take a multi-vitamin, which will Supplement your diet…now you know why they call it a supplement!

I’ve tried lots and lots of supplements and brands. Out of the one’s I’ve tried personally I would recommend VGF 25+ multivitamin by Prograde Nutrition. It is an awesome product at a reasonable price.  progradelogo-new

Whatever vitamin you choose, just make sure that it is approved and safe!  And try to avoid buying a vitamin at a CVS or Walmart, the quality is very low and not too many benefits will be seen from it!

…And of course, Don’t forget to eat your vegetable :)

How to get Lamborghini Fit

Have you ever driven a Lamborghini?

vegas-march-2010-122

Well I have. On my recent trip to Las Vegas I was given the opportunity to test drive a Lamborghini Murcielago for 40 minutes around the Vegas Strip.  Wow what an experience!

The raw power of this car was unbelievable….just touch the gas and before you know it your going 60mph.  And with it’s bright green color this car screams for attention. When your driving a lambo, it is nearly impossible for you not to be notice and for people to ask around “who was that?”

When you start to workout and get into great shape…you feel better, you look better. People begin to notice the results you’ve got gotten and you turn heads

Does This Sound Familiar???

Isn’t it time you got Lamborghini fit?

Do NOT use a kettlebell like this!

Happy Saturday!

Just thought I’d share this video that I can across the other day.  The video features “America’s Trainer”, Jillian Michaels performing Kettlebell exercises.  Everything looks great until the very last exercise…pay close attention to what she does wrong (hint: I always say keep your back STRAIGHT!)….this goes to show that just because your on TV does not mean your an educated trainer.
