My pledge to you…

Hey!

If you’ve been following my blog for a while than you already know a lot about my personality, what I believe in and how I think and feel when it comes to fitness, health and success in life.

I wanted to put together a pledge to you the reader, all my personal training clients, all my bootcamp members and those that are thinking about wanting to join.

Here is my pledge to you….

1. To offer the hands down, without any question, no doubt, top of the line training and workout experience that you will EVER have in your life, no exceptions.

2. Every day that you come in to a workout led by me or one of my trainers, you will NEVER say to yourself “wow I wish it was harder” or “I wish I sweated more.”  Just won’t happen.

3. To never waste  your time. From the workouts to the music to the equipment that we have at our bootcamps and studios, we will never have anything that is a waste of your time.  Everything we have in every aspect of my training business serves a purpose.

4. To give you a slight edge.  When you come to our bootcamps or train with our trainers, you know that you are getting the best workout you can get, no questions asked.  You are always getting a slight edge over people who just go to the gym, workout with another trainer or studio.  Our training is the best and that translates into the best results for you.

5. To give you the best trainers.  I’ve been in the fitness industry for over five years and trust me, that is more than enough time to realize that finding a trainer that knows what they are doing is HARD to find.  Trainers are a dime a dozen and more often than not they don’t know what they are doing.  At RB Fitness and TNT Bootcamp, you always get the best trainers.  My philosophy has always been that having letters at the end of your name is cool and all, but it’s all about RESULTS! My trainers have all proven that they can deliver results and that sets us apart from everyone else.

6. I will always be in better shape than you. Ok, this may sound arrogant and all, but think for a second.  Would you train with someone who is more out of shape than you? If you wanted to be a millionaire, would you ask someone who is broke for advice on how to make money? I hope not! I promise that I will always give you a run for your money and be in top shape because in order for you to grow as a client and find the way in your fitness journey, you need someone who has already been down that path :)

7. We will always care. I’ve always been a big believer that in order to get someone results, you have to care about that person. Crazy concept right?

At the end of the day, nothing gives me more joy than seeing someone get incredible results from working with me.  Don’t get me wrong, when I say I care…it doesn’t mean I’m going to baby you.

Sometimes it’s tough love and I will have no problem correcting or telling you where your going wrong.  I only do it because I care! And trust me, there is a big difference when you know that you have a trainer that is on your team and is working with you with your best interests in mind.

8. We will change your life.   Another statement that might sound arrogant to the outsider, but just ask anyone who has gotten awesome results from training at my studio. Trust me, when you lose 20, 30, 40+ pounds you better believe that is going to make a big difference and change your life.  Take my awesome bootcamper and all around good guy Joe for example:

I remember when my wife and I first sat down for our consultation with Robby before taking our first class.  I was thinking; what am I getting myself into?  How long will we actually go to this thing?  Am I wasting my time or is this going to work?  Those questions were answered quickly.  I immediately knew after our first Boot Camp class this was no ordinary exercise class or fad – in short – I thought I was going to die after my first class.  It was tough!  But at the same time it felt good to push myself, I felt for the first time in a long time I had really gotten a great workout.

Now eight months later, I am down 35 pounds, feeling great about how I look and in one of the best shapes of my life.  I remember Robby telling us that if you are serious about losing weight and feeling great, Boot Camp becomes a way of life – you plan around it.  He’s right.  We do plan around it because we have seen results.

One of the things I like best about Boot Camp is what I like to call the “in and out” feeling of it.  You go to class, it’s planned out for you, you do it, and you’re done.  In 50 minutes I get a much better workout than I could ever put myself through with 2+ hours at the gym.  Also the camaraderie amongst all the people going to Boot Camp; you support one another, see people getting results, and of course make jokes with people when they haven’t shown up for a few days – its motivation to keep going.  And I have to mention that Robby is a great motivator.  He guides, supports, and helps you every class and lets you know how you’re doing.  He has been awesome!

In short, Boot Camp has been a life changer.  My wife and I continue to go on a regular basis together, and it really does become part of your routine.  In my opinion, a great way to stay in shape, especially if you don’t have a lot of time to spend hours at the gym.

9. Your going to get hooked up:  Have you ever been to a store and you go to buy something and they tell you “oh we have a special going on today and because you bought that product, your going to get all of these accessories free!”  How cool is that right? I mean your basically paying for one thing but your getting so much back in return.  That’s how my business is, you never get what you pay for…you get MORE than you pay for.  I always believe in over delivering on everything I give you from the workouts, meal plans, coaching, support, motivation, equipment…and so much more.

10. To constantly evolve and improve:  One thing that I have never been really good at and is not in my nature is to be complacent.  I have to always be improving and doing things better than the day before.  And that is in all parts of my life, especially in my business.  I always want to be ahead of the curve and come up with new techniques and workouts that are going to put you light years ahead of someone at another gym or with another trainer.  The more ahead of the curve I am, the better the workout your going to get.

Overall, all I ever want to do it give you the best workout ever and get you in the best shape of your life….and trust me that is not too much to ask :)

P.S.  If you haven’t heard already, my new bootcamp location is opening on September 19th….in Woburn! If you life in the area, come check out our website and get in shape now!

How to Lose Your Baby Belly….

Posted by admin | Posted in Nutrition, Workouts | Posted on 29-08-2011-05-2008

0

Hey!

So today I wanted to write a quick post about two things that I get asked all the time by my female clients…

1.) Is there anything I can do about my belly?

OR

2.) Can I get rid of my belly without getting surgery?

Well have no fear because I’m going to do my very best to answer any questions you may have and hopefully help you to finally get rid of that stubborn “baby pouch.” Here are a few steps that can help improve and sometimes even get rid of your pouch.

While many new moms struggle with losing post-pregnancy weight and strengthening the abdominal muscles, recovery after a cesarean section presents unique challenges. Because nerves in the abdomen may be affected by a c-section, you may need a longer amount of time post-delivery for your abdomen to heal and nerve sensation to return. In order to rid yourself of the post-baby belly, you must combine efforts of a healthy diet and exercise.

Step 1

Breastfeed your baby, which may help your uterus to shrink faster post-delivery. According to Baby Center, breastfeeding helps to burn extra calories as well as shrink the abdomen. It’s also advantageous to the baby, as breast milk is designed to perfectly meet an infant’s nutritional needs, according to the Nursing Mothers Counsel.

Step 2

Drink plenty of water–Love to Know recommends at least 75 ounces of water per day for a 150-pound woman. Water is advantageous for c-section patients because it helps to reduce bloating by moving bloat-causing sodium through the body. Water also helps you to feel more full, which can reduce the tendency to overeat.

Step 3

Follow a low-fat diet. Diet is very important for you after a c-section because you may not be able to exercise while recovering from this procedure. The key is to consume enough calories, yet choose low-fat, high-nutrient foods. Love to Know recommends a diet between 1,500 and 2,000 calories per day. You may wish to consume the higher end of this range if you are breastfeeding, as you require more calories in order to provide the best nutrition for your baby.

Step 4

Exercise, taking care to gradually increase the intensity. For moms hoping to improve their post-baby belly, exercise sessions could include postpartum yoga or Pilates sessions geared specifically toward the unique needs of women after baby. You can even incorporate your baby into your exercise routine by pushing her in a jogging or walking stroller.

Although it may seem difficult to get rid of the excess skin and weight after pregnancy, it can certainly be done as long as your disciplined in your diet and in your exercise routine.

If your looking to jumpstart your fitness and finally get on track, then you need to check this out!

The Wonder of Fruits and Vegetables…

As you should know by now, eating fruits and vegetables are extremely important when it comes to good health and staying in great shape.  They have so many benefits that allow you to feel better, look better, and be better!

I ran across this great article on the wonder of fruits and vegetables and thought I would share it with you….Enjoy!

carrot
A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye. The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye. And yes, science now shows that carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes!

tomato
A Tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart is red and has four chambers. All of the research shows tomatoes are indeed pure heart and blood food.

grapes
Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows that grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food.

walnut
A Walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds on the nut are just like the neo-cortex. We now know that walnuts help develop over 3 dozen neuron-transmitters for brain function.

kidney beans
Kidney Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys.

celery sticks
Celery, Bok Choy, Rhubarb and more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23% sodium and these foods are 23% sodium. If you don’t have enough sodium in your diet the body pulls it from the bones, making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body.

avocado
Eggplant, Avocadoes and Pears target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female – they look just like these organs. Today’s research shows that when a woman eats 1 avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight and prevents cervical cancers. And how profound is this? It takes exactly 9 months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over 14,000 photolytic chemical constituents of nutrition in each one of these foods (modern science has only studied and named about 141 of them).

figs
Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow. Figs increase the motility of male sperm and increase the numbers of Sperm cells to overcome male sterility.

sweet potatoes
Sweet Potatoes look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics.

olives
Olives assist the health and function of the ovaries.

lemon grapefruit orange
Grapefruits, Oranges, and other Citrus fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts.

onions
Onions look like body cells. Today’s research shows that onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells. They even produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes.

P.S. Time is running out before the price of bootcamp goes up.  Now is the perfect opportunity to finally get the results you want and save money at the same time.  Prices go up April 1st so act fast!

Captain Obvious to the Rescue!

Hey! Robby here…

I was sitting at my desk earlier today getting ready to put together this post and trying to think of what to write.  I couldn’t think of anything to write and was about to give up when I received a call from my good friend Captain Obvious.

Me and Captain Obvious have been friends for a very long time and he’s always given me great advice about any issue in my life.  Like the time when this girl I liked didn’t return any of my calls…Captain Obvious told me..”Robby, she doesn’t like you.”  Or the time when I burned my hand on the stove…Captain Obvious said to me “You shouldn’t touch that, it’s hot.”

When Captain Obvious offered to write a guest post for me on exercise and nutrition, how could I say no?!  So without further adieu, here is Captain Obvious!

Hey Everyone,
It’s me Captain Obvious!  Most of you probably already know who I am and what I am all about.  However, when I look around I also know that there are some people who have no clue who I am.  So here is a little bit about me, I’m the guy with the super ability to tell you what happens when you do something. Like for example, when you read Robby’s blog your going to learn some great stuff! See what I mean?  Sure, it may not sound exactly like a super power, but trust me…not everyone knows about it!

When Robby asked me to write to you about health and fitness, I was very excited! Apart from my daily routine of telling people the obvious things in life, I love to workout and stay in shape because when you exercise, it improves your health! So here are what I like to call my “Captain Obvious Top 9 Exercise Tips for People Who Don’t Know Anything About Exercise.”

Number 1: If you want to lose weight….stop eating so much and workout more: I can’t tell you how many people I see who complain about the way they look and will swear to me that they’ve tried exercising and eating right and “it doesn’t work for me.”  I think that these people must have a rare disease which renders them immune to the effect of exercise or otherwise they are full of…well you know.

Number 2: Walking, yardwork, anything along those lines does not count as exercise: Ok, so maybe this one isn’t quite as obvious as I would like it to be…but have you ever seen  or asked someone “do you workout?” and they’ll reply “Well I try to walk to the mailbox to get the paper”, or “Sure every fall I rake my leaves off of my lawn.”  Well that’s all well in good…but physical activity is different from exercise.  Let’s face it…when you ask someone how they lost 50lbs or you ask the bodybuilder how they got those chiseled abs, they don’t say “Well I made sure to double knot my shoes everyday.”

Number 3: Looking in a mirror when you workout doesn’t increase your results: Don’t you hate this? You go to the gym and you see someone who can’t seem to take their eyes off of themselves at the gym. It’s almost as if that person thinks that if they take their eyes off of themselves, they might die.  The truth is, looking in the mirror can be helpful but it won’t get you better results.  I mean that’s probably why Robby doesn’t have any mirrors in his bootcamp studio.

Number 4:  If you want to change the way you look, you have to change what your doing: Have you ever been watching TV with a friend, in particular a friend that isn’t happy with the way they look, and a commercial comes on with either a good looking guy or girl and your friends says “wow I want to look like that.” Yet as they say that they are sitting on the couch only a few Pringles away from finishing the whole can?  Being Captain Obvious can be frusterating!  In order to get to where you want to be, you need to change what you are doing.  Want to have a chiseled body with a 6 pack? Well try living like that person and eat and workout in a way that will get you there….because what your doing right now clearly isn’t working!

Number 5:  You are who you associate with: Pretty deep huh? (that’s what she said)  Well it’s true!  If you want to be somewhere or something your not..then hang out with someone who is already there! Want to be successful in business? Then hang out with successful people in business! Want to get in great shape and live a healthy lifestyle? Then hang out with people who are in great shape and live a healthy lifestyle! Want to be out of shape and miserable? Well…I think you get the idea.

Number 6: Pancakes, ice cream, beer, cake and anything that finishes with the word “cream” WILL NOT get you to where you want to be in your fitness goals: Do I really need to explain anymore?

Number 7:  Just joining a gym does not guarantee that you will get results, you actually have to go and use it: Seems pretty obvious right?  But how many people do you know that come January 1st of EVERY SINGLE YEAR, join a gym with the hopes of getting in shape yet it never happens.  Well first of all you have to go to the gym…but apart from that you need guidance because how can you get in shape if you don’t know how? That’s why you should join a program like Robby’s bootcamp, where the guidance is included.

Number 8:  Never take advice on exercise or nutrition unless that person looks good: Wow Captain Obvious that’s really shallow! Well here is the thing…would you take advice on how to feed the lions at the zoo from someone who has only been a store clerk and couldn’t tell the difference between a lion and a penguin?  I’m assuming your answer would be no.  Well then why would you take exercise or nutritional advice from someone who looks like hell or is completely out of shape.  Want to get good advice? Next time your at the doctors office or with your trainer…ask them (hopefully its a male) if they’d feel comfortable giving you advice with their shirt off.  If not, then they have no business giving you health and fitness advice.
Number 9:  TNT Bootcamp Works: You knew this was coming, yet it still surprises you! Even though I’m great friends with Robby, I know first hand that bootcamp works. Robby was just telling me how one of his clients just lost 27lbs in less than 4 months.  I can tell you first hand and with complete obviousness that if you want a fool proof way to get the results you want, then you have to do Robby’s bootcamp.  It couldn’t be anymore obvious….now back to you Robby!

Robby again,

Well there you have it….9 tips from the world famous Captain Obvious.  If you are tired of seeing no results at the gym, then stop ignoring the obvious and come out and try my bootcamp!  You won’t regret it!

What I learned at Crossfit

Posted by admin | Posted in Nutrition, Workouts | Posted on 01-11-2010-05-2008

Happy Monday! I hope you had an awesome Halloween weekend.

While most of you may have been taking your kids trick or treating (but certainly not eating any of the candy while doing so), I was spending my weekend at the Crossfit Level 1 Certification Seminar.  For those of you that don’t know much about Crossfit, let me tell you, you need to.

What is Crossfit?  Crossfit is a type of training that defines itself as “Constantly Variable, High Intensity, Functional Movement.”  For those of you that don’t understand what that means, let me help you out…

It means it gets your results and makes you better at doing everyday things.

You see, although Crossfit is known to have challanging workouts that cause people to become nausous (and beyond), the reason behind what they do is important and will dramatically help your workouts, and workout results.

Here are some things you need to keep in mind and add to your workouts (if you aren’t already.)….

1. Intensity is the shortcut to Results

Ok so I know you may think that spending an hour on the treadmill and then another hour on the elliptical and then another half hour doing crunches is really beneficial, it isn’t.  Intensity is the key to your workouts.  If your body is comfortable during exercise and there isn’t much demand being put on it, then your doing it wrong.  High burst of Intensity will literally cut the time it takes to get results.  You can do 10 pushups? Great now do it with a weighted vest.

2. Form is EVERYTHING

One of the main things that Crossfit is very firm on is form with the exercise. Have you ever done a squat or any exercise for that manner and you think its right and then I come along and tell you to make this adjustment and WOW, suddenly the exercise became alot harder!

We break down the exercise using only bodyweight and no resistance at all.  The only way you can add resistance is when you master the form with just bodyweight.  Not only is form important to getting results, its important to stop injury.

3. Be good at a lot of things

In life we are faced with lots of unpredictable things.  Sometimes we have to run, sometimes jump, sometimes lift a heavy object from the ground to above our head, sometimes we bed down to pick something up.  These are everyday movement that we do without even thinking twice.  Crossfit philosophy involves functional movement.  The workouts that Crossfit does, as well as our bootcamp are geared towards making you better at lots of things. That is why we push, pull, jump, row, run, etc.

4. Move Better

Along the same lines with being good at lots of things…being able to move better is crucial for a better well being.  Think about it…when people get older and go into a nursing home there are often cases where they may be sick and cannot live on there own.  However, lots of times the person is well in a health stand point yet they can’t live on their own because they have lost their ability to move.

5. Community is Key

When you walk into any Crossfit gym, you cannot help but notice the sense of community with everyone.  There were 52 people in the seminar from all over yet everyone was close and friendly because we shared the same common goal with each other and that was to learn and improve our fitness.  The same holds true with my bootcamp. I work very hard to build a sense of community that allows us to all support each other in our goals so that everyone is comfortable and even in a tough workout, we are able to pull together and get through it.

This weekend has really made a big difference in my thinking and how I would like to progress in training for bootcamp as well as my personal training clients.  I can promise that there will be some good changes coming up that will not only make you a fitter person, but will make you feel better than you’ve ever felt.  It may not be easy at times, but it will always be worth it! : )

Stay Fit,

Robby

P.S. If you haven’t joined my bootcamp yet…what are you waiting for?

The Big Lie

Posted by admin | Posted in Nutrition | Posted on 06-09-2010-05-2008

Have you ever been told something that wasn’t true and you believed it? Not only did you believed it, but you believed it for a very long time and maybe even told other people about it thinking that it was a true statement?

One of the biggest lies that has been going around in the fitness industry and in the gyms you go to is eating habits. In fact the other day I overheard a lady at the gym telling her friend that they best way to lose weight was “not to eat.”  When I heard this I could feel my blood start to boil. Not only is that the farthest thing from the truth, but it’s the exact opposite of what happens.

When you do not eat…you GAIN WEIGHT!

Ok, so maybe you think I’m crazy too…but hear me out!  Your body is such an advanced organism that it requires lots of frequent energy in order to perform at it’s peak.  And of course this energy comes from the food we feed it.  When the body isn’t getting fed at least every 3 hours, it literally thinks that it is starving and goes into what I call “Starvation mode.”

In other words, it slows it’s metabolism (the rate at which you burn calories), and becomes more EFFICIENT at STORING Fat!

Well this would be a great thing if we were in the Arctic and had no food to eat, but we are not! We want to have our bodies burning calories and not storing them!

So in order to keep our body from thinking it’s starving, we need to eat consistently (about every 3 hours). This keeps our metabolism high and keep our bodies burning calories.  So in fact we need to eat MORE OFTEN in order to LOSE WEIGHT.

And you thought I was crazy :)

P.S. The kids are finally back to school…what are you doing with your free time? Why not try out my bootcamp?

Want to Lose a Pound?

Posted by admin | Posted in Nutrition | Posted on 31-08-2010-05-2008

Contrary to what most people may tell you, losing weight is actually pretty easy.  Losing weight is actually what I would call a “number’s game”.  What does this mean exactly?

Well let’s go back in time to our high school health science and math class.  As I’m sure you learned way back when (and maybe forgotten), that a pound is made up of 3500 calories.  This is a KEY number to remember and will get you a long way in your goal of losing weight.

Now that we know that one pound is equal to 3500 calories…how do we apply that to losing weight?  Simple.  Just eliminate 3500 calories from your diet over the course of a week.  Seem hard? It shouldn’t!

All you need to do is eliminate 500 calories a day from what your currently eating (500 calories x 7days/wk= 3500 cal)

For example, say you like to have a healthy nutritious soda twice a day with your lunch and dinner.  Well a typical soda can run anywhere between 200-300 calories. So two sodas a day is EQUAL to 500 calories! Cut out those soda’s (having water instead) and you’ll lose One pound this week!

You just lost a pound and you didn’t even pick up a weight or come to one of my bootcamps!

If you want to lose more weight, well then apply the same principle but in larger numbers of course. Replace your processed food for healthy alternatives and watch your calorie intake (and your waistline) shrink.

When you combine a solid exercise program with healthy eating habits you will seem more results than you could imagine.  All it takes is some proper discipline and a little effort!

Also, always remember that being consistent in what you do is important to achieving your goals.  Even losing just a few pounds a week or a month will go a long way towards your long term goals of getting into great shape!

Stay Fit,

Robby

P.S. If you haven’t checked out my “Fat Blast” bootcamp, then you have no idea what your missing out on. If you want to burn up to 800 calories per workout and finally fit into those skinny jeans, then you need to come and check us out!

Eat healthy….at McDonalds?

Good afternoon!

For those of you that read my newsletter on a regular basis (hopefully all of you!), you already know how I preach good nutrition as one of the keys to your fitness results.  All too often I see people who will have the workout side of things down pat, but their nutrition is off.  mcdonalds-bench-press

In my last newsletter I talked about the importance of making good decisions when it comes to where you eat as well as what you eat.  I’ve gotten some good feedback from that article and many people were wondering what choices there are when you do find yourself at a fast food place, such as McDonalds.

Believe it or not, McDonald’s has some very good food choices that are healthy!  If your pressed for time, try their apple dippers or their salads which are prepared with Newman’s Own dressing.  Sure the food is still fast, but it’s also healthy! Lot’s of sit-down restaurants, such as Cheescake Factory, have menu items that are much worse in terms of calories and fat than some fast food choices.

So if you are ever in a pinch and need to get something healthy, maybe after my bootcamp, then don’t look past McDonalds!

Stay Fit,

Why You Should Take Vitamins

Posted by admin | Posted in Nutrition | Posted on 29-04-2010-05-2008

Do you remember when you were younger?

When I was younger I used to always go and visit my grandparents on Saturday afternoons.  It was always a nice relaxing time and I always had a nicely prepared Ice Cream Sundae waiting for me, courtesy of my grandmother.  However, before I could have any of that delicious sundae, I had to get through with my meal…which usually consisted of veggies (which I hated).

My Grandmother would say “be sure to eat your vegetables!”  This was a monumental task for me. And thankfully I grew out of disliking veggies and now I LOVE them!

All too often we get busy with work or everyday things in life and we don’t have time to have a “perfect” diet.  It is certainly possible by planning your meals ahead of time (which I recommend).  But just in case I think it is important to take a multi-vitamin, which will Supplement your diet…now you know why they call it a supplement!

I’ve tried lots and lots of supplements and brands. Out of the one’s I’ve tried personally I would recommend VGF 25+ multivitamin by Prograde Nutrition. It is an awesome product at a reasonable price.  progradelogo-new

Whatever vitamin you choose, just make sure that it is approved and safe!  And try to avoid buying a vitamin at a CVS or Walmart, the quality is very low and not too many benefits will be seen from it!

…And of course, Don’t forget to eat your vegetable :)
